On Solitude and the Nature of Stillness

Image
Today I'm enjoying a period of too infrequent solitude, and it's freaking beautiful😍 For the past month we've had our lil Granddaughter (the always amusing, 2 year old Tootiebug aka Klingette) full-time while my daughter and her husband are out of town. I'm crazy about this kid but let me tell you that full-time child rearing is a young woman's game! And at age 50 with a baker's dozen of chronic health + pain conditions it's been anything but a joyride for ya gurl. So today my Mama came to hang out with the baby for a couple of hours so I can get out of the 🏠. I dashed around tossing on my clothes, hair in a messy bun and hightailed it out of there just as fast as could be! The first stop on my short burst of baby free time was Office Depot to check pricing on making prints of my art quilts for my newly reopened Etsy store and upcoming pop-up shop at Stef-N-Ty's beautiful North End Shop. I found some cute new gel pens for my Girl Gang Happy Planne...

Studio, Mini Gallery Wall Construction

Image
Completed Mini Gallery Wall Hey there, I thought that today I should share the technique I used to make the mini gallery display walls in my studio. I needed an easy, affordable way to display both finished pieces as well as works in progress. I wanted a nice, dark background so that the vivid colors and patterns of the pieces would really pop in photographs as well as it being easily pinned into. An additional motivation was the butt ugly luan panels I had nailed up to cover existing plumbing and sewer pipes for the first floor bathroom which is above the area in question. ***Supplies Used*** 2 sheets of pink insulation board from Home Depot, cost $23 each Leopard print hot glue gun Hot glue sticks Sharpie marker Electric carving knife Pearl headed dressmaker pins 2 yards of (72" wide) cheap black craft felt from Joann Fabrics, cost $3.50 per yard with coupon, regular price $6.99 per yard Total cost out of pocket approx $53 *And I've got multiple pieces of the...

It's a cold and rainy day here in the Motor City. Perfect for snuggling up with your sweetheart, which is just what I'm doing this afternoon. It's one of the rare Days when my husband, My Beloved Klingon is home from work which makes me a very happy woman indeed! Things have been pretty hectic for us these past few months and having quality time alone is always cherished. I've been redoing my art studio in anticipation of an upcoming article on my textile art. It's a long overdue clean out and organization project. I can't honestly say reorganization as that would imply that I've ever actually been organized. Not this gal! I'm far more a fly by the seat of my pants, piles of fabric and books everywhere, stacks of u.f.o.s (unfinished objects) tucked away in every corner. The fact that a professional photographer from a huge metropolitan newspaper was coming into my humble home to takes shots of me, my workspace, dolls, quilts, wearable art pie...

Levelling Up at 50

Greetings and Salutations, I'm feeling some kinda way about dipping my toes into the deep and to me mysterious waters of social media. So to start I'm writing a note to the me who attempted to do so a few years back but was sidelined by both medical issues and self doubt with an ample side dish of old fashioned fear of the unknown. Be patient with me. The ride may get bumpy but at least we're all in this together! Hey there Chica, I see you getting stronger. I see you making joy a priority. I see you setting long overdue boundaries. I see you reclaiming your time. I see you saying Yes to opportunities and letting the Blessings flow. I see you fighting through when the chronic pain and inflammation are trying to break you down. I see you, Sis. I see you and I'm so damn proud of how far you've come. Your dedication to thriving not just surviving I know how hard it is when that to-do list is a mile long and you have no spoons left. I see you keep pushing for your...
